Never heard this song before today, and in 5.5 years has amassed 35,304,220 views since 6 Jun 2019.. I guess most tumblrs would be fairly familiar with it though, seeing how that is the most constant theme on this social. I love it, you guys are adorable in your quest to be healed, and so far you're my favourite social next to Reddit lol. No one is going to top Reddit for personal disclosures. This video's YT stat is the most bizarre; it was 127M views this morning at 5am, then 37M, & now 35M views.. I'm not sure what is going on? BTW this social has the best hot takes.

This song would have been perfect for Inception, saw it the other day again, but I've already read the threads on the breakdown of the hidden elements in the movie & it's been years since I first saw it.. so all in all that may have taken away much of the chaos of the plot.

My favourite moment, which endures Leo to the thought that he would have made a great dad in another Universe, was the heart wrenching departure with his idealized version of his deceased wife:

He wanted the entire jumble of her crazy ups & downs, despite having grown old together for a hundred plus years in the dream state.. his subconscious still attacked him for planting the thought that she needed to move on [from some unknown loss] so she wouldn't be depressed any longer.

I think the writers were alluding to the fact that in our limited & diminishing recollection of all the bad, because with time we always make the past seem golden in our minds, and therefore become unsatisfied with the present. So in the end, the longer we hang onto the past, the more haunted we are by it, the less able we are to increasingly flourish despite the ravages of time. I don't really know, but I think if Christopher Nolan is up to it, would be nice to see him flesh out why he thinks growing old is so great.. I know C.S. Lewis tried to say the happiness now is part of the sadness later, but I don't take that as an answer to the problem & aversion to growing old. Gary & his patients know what I'm talking about; they are willing to throw everything but the kitchen sink at aging.

So that's the main thing I don't understand, is this romanticizing of growing old, it is so maddening, the most confusing and dishonest tagline in any given story. For now that is my hot take.

The only reason stuff like Narnia or Vampire movies look cheesy is bc they need better actors to play up the gravitas of how alluring living forever is.. growing old is depressing, ever met people who are living widows? They are hiding their sadness, there are many movies about it, and how they try to find their way back into the living after the fact.

Also maybe stop cutting out all the horrible day-to-day entanglements that make people avoid & hate one another or depressed.. directors tend to tie up loose ends with a bow tie for this clean break to the end, no ambiguity or sense of loss & confusion which plagues mankind.

That was s/t I picked up on from hearing about Julie Andrews' life in review yesterday bc apparently her costar Christopher Plummer had assumed she wasn't able to pull off a serious role in the Sound of Music, much to his chagrin as he called her Miss Disney or something along those lines. FYI Julie had a rough childhood with a drunk of a stepfather, who would violate her space & enter her bedroom. Something many girls in my high school had issues with, one was even her own father.
